Chapter 179 Conversion Ritual

To become the next Pope, it was necessary to grasp all knowledge about the God’s Punishment Army’s Conversion Ceremony. A year ago, after O’Brian had declared that Mayne would be the one to become his successor, he had given him books about the ceremony to read. Only when he had obtained all the knowledge within would he have the qualifications to succeed him.

Because of this, the contents of the book have long since already been memorized.

To create a new soldier for the God’s Punishment Army, it was necessary to sacrifice a witch’s life. A mixture was made out of her blood and out of the God’s Punishment Stones, which was then injected into a warrior of the Army of Judges. During the centuries the pattern of the ceremony had been improved many times, but the essence of it has never changed – while the number of witches decided the upper limit of the possible number of new member for the God’s Punishment Army, it was the devotion and will of the Judges which decided its rate of success.

After reading this book, he finally came to understand why the Church would accommodate so many young women every year. There was no outward sign to indicated that they would turn into a witch, before the moment they started to gather their magic, they were completely the same as any other human. But once they began to converge into their magic power, their body, organs, and blood would all be changed. So, in addition to expanding the scale of the breeding, there was no other way they could raise the number of witches.

This was also the reason why he had approved of Heather’s way of speaking – everything they had ever done was totally evil, the hands of the people within the higher ranks of the Church were all soaked in blood. They had killed more witches than any executioner. But in order to defeat the Devil, to avoid the destruction of humanity, they had no choice but to do so.

Only the victorious would be qualified to obtain God’s favor.

There were two Judges placed on the conversion table, and Mayne knew both of them, namely it was Dylan from the first battalion and also Tucker Thor, a Holy City guard, who was still a Presiding Judge.

Even though both of them were smiling and trying to display their faith, but because of their tensed muscles and clenched fist, the Archbishop could still see just how nervous they truly were. So he tried to calm them by stepping up to them and patting their shoulders, “Relax, I believe both of you will succeed.”

“Your Excellency, as long as we endure the pain, will we make it?” Dylan couldnt prevent himself from asking.

“That’s right, you only have to hold on,” Mayne laughed. “Your name is Dylan, right?”

“You remembered my name,” he became totally excited.

Of course, you are a member of the First Battalion, which had participated in the war to defend Hermes last year. The captain of your unit is… Alica, am I right?”

“Yes,” Dylan nodded over and over, “During the battle, our unit suffered heavy casualties, half of my comrades died under the claws of the demonic beasts. I thought that if I could get the ability to kill those mixed species like I’d seen the God’s Punishment Army do, Your Excellency, I would also want to become a member of the God’s Punishment Army!”

“Thats a firm belief,” Mayne encouraged, and then turned around to look at the other Judge. “So what’s about you, Tucker Thor, what is your reason for becoming a member of the God’s Punishment Army?”

“I want to defend the New Holy City,” said the Presiding Judge. Furthermore, it seems that each passing year the demonic beasts only keep on growing stronger. They already broke through the wall of the Holy City last year, and if it weren’t for the God’s Punishment Army, it would have been entirely possible that they cathedral would have had fallen on that day. So now I also want to become a powerful shield against the demonic beasts, and pierce them with my pike.”

“Excellent, you are both the pride of the Church,” Mayne, just as it was described in the ancient records, tried to resolve their tension and fear through using encouraging words. When he saw that their faith was as strong as possible, he waved his hand to signal that the ceremony could now continue.

A group of guards came up to blindfold their eyes and used iron rings to fix their ankles and hands to the top of the table, making it impossible for them to struggle free during the course of the Conversion Ceremony. Then the witch was also brought in and placed on the table between the two.

As a witch that belonged to the Church, she had spent most of her life in a monastery within the Old Holy City, but after her awakening, she was then sent over to the core area, waiting until it was time for her to become the material needed for the conversion.

One day before she was to be turned into a sacrifice, she was forced to drink a lot of dream water was. The dream water was an herbal medicine made from boiling sleeping ferns and winter flowers, it ensured that regardless of what happened she would not wake up during the ceremony.

“Number, age?”

“One, eighteen,” one of the guards replied.

This was just a routine inquiry, only the blood of an adult witch was strong enough to meet their requirements of conversion of Judges into a member of the God’s Punishment Army. After Mayne confirmed that the witch did indeed belong to the right roster he announced that the ceremony would now begin.

On his signal, a fine silver syringe was inserted into the witch’s arm, and soon after her reddish-brown blood began to flow through the tube which was wrapped around the needle, and gather into a crystal basin. The bottom of the basin was covered by a layer of pale blue Gods Stone of Retaliation, gradually becoming covered by the blood until it finally filled the whole basin.

The God’s Stone of Retaliation soon gave birth to some changes. Through the side of the crystal basin they could see how the blue stones were being absorbed the witch’s blood and about half an hour later the stones started to melt gradually until they had completely disappeared. The turbid blood now became clear, turning from a reddish-brown into sky a blue.

Even though this operation seemed to be quite simple, but only after tens of thousands of tests, were they finally able to come up with such a reliable procedure.  For example, what was the best age, evaluating how much blood the witch contained, the right method for the needle and skin tube’s production, from which part the blood should be taken and into which part should it be inserted, as well as what quality Gods Stone of Retaliation would work for the best and what would be the right amount to use… In addition to using the ancient records, they also wrote down all of their own failed experiment and their thoughts on how they could make it better. But at the same time they were also explaining the general principle behind the conversion process.

After a witch’s body was changed by their magic, their blood got the ability to strengthen the organs and tendons, but if the blood was used directly, it would only lead to the recipient dying instantly. Because of this, it was necessary to immerse a Gods Stone of Retaliation within the witchs blood and dissolving the “mysterious power” that was still within. After this it could now be injected into the aspirants – but, even with this, the blood would still damage receptionist’s consciousness, causing them to gradually lose their emotions and intelligence, ultimately turning them into beings which could only survive by using their instincts and a strong will. If they outlived the ceremony, the God’s Stone of Retaliation would give them the additional effect that even without wearing a God’s Stone of Retaliation, they would still be able to ban all magic around them.

He had to say, this was really a fascinating combination. The blood of a witch which would usually cause humans to die and the God’s Stone of Retaliation which, when swallowed would also put the people to death, when combined, their adverse effects would instead be reduced to a minimum.

When the blue liquid slowly flowed over their skin, and was absorbed by the two Judges, the veins in their arms and neck suddenly rose up, and their expression turned grim, as if they had to endure an enormous pain. Dylan was the first to shout out loudly, he struggled wildly on the table, clenching and opening his hands repeatedly, but he couldnt move his hands or his feet, even though his body soon began to emit a layer of thin sweat.

Tucker, however, wasn’t in a much better condition either, he began growling and foam and blood could be seen at the edge of his mouth as his body twitched.

The fluid inside the crystal basin dropped little by little and soon the bottom became visible, by now Dylan’s voice had already turned into a sobbing, interrupted by shouts of words carrying an unknown meaning. His skin began dissolving emitting a white smoke from his head to his toes. According to the judgement of the ancient records, this signs indicated that his conversion was on the brink of failure. Mayne hesitated, unsure over whether he should continue observing further, but at this moment the Pope stepped in behind him and placed a hand on his shoulder and said, “That’s enough, let him go.”

With these words, one of the Pope’s personal guards came forward, drew a dagger and stabbed it smoothly and cleanly into Dylan’s neck, quickly turning the handle and ending Dylan’s suffering. .

After a painfully long wait, Tucker Thor’s convulsions finally subsided, and his breathing gradually became smoother, and his former rosy skin turned a shade of light blue. Seeing this, Mayne knew that he had survived the conversion ceremony.

One man succeeded while another man had failed, seeing this result Mayne sighed, within a quarter of an hour the Church has lost a devoted Judge and also wasted half of the witchs blood.

But there were still sixty other Judges waiting for their chance at conversion, so he had to let the ceremony go on.

By the time the ceremony finally came to an end, Mayne was almost unable to stand. he staggered along the table, nearly throwing off the instruments that were lying on it, finally he sat on the ground, with his back to the wall.

The Pope slowly came over until he was standing in front of him, “To tell you the truth, I’m surprised by your performance. The first time I presided over the ceremony, I did it much worse than you. At that year I was still Forty-five years old, but the strong smell of the blood made me throw up directly on the conversion table, almost wasting a whole pot of blood. The former Pope even gave me a ruthless beating, but the moment he was finished he had ordered me to go back on stage and continue to preside over the ceremony.”

“…” Hearing his tale, Mayne opened his mouth, but in the end, he didn’t really know what to say.

“So, if you do not want anything else, you may go back and have a good rest for today.”

“Yes, by your will.” The Archbishop took a deep breath, then went down on his knees and gave his salute, but he suddenly remembered the purpose of his visit today, “Hold on, today the reason you called me to the Mysterious Central Temple was because…”

“Oh, look at my memory,” O’Brien shook his head self-mockingly: “I was looking for you to give you a new poison, which was recently created within the core area.”

“Poison?” The core had devoted their energy into studying the God’s Stone of Retaliation, creating such things as cold pills, fluorescent stones, wild chemical drug and so on. Afterwards all of their creation would be then sent to the Archbishop. But until now he had never heard that they had involved themselves in the production of poison, in Mayne opinion, that sort of thing should be done by the Alchemists who were good at it.

“According to them, its invention was entirely due to luck.” the Pope said unhurriedly. “It only becomes effective after it is sprinkled on rotten corpses and will have an effect on the surrounding population for a long time, compared to ordinary poisons it isn’t necessary for the target to ingest it orally. And without the special antidote, it is completely impossible for it to be cured. For the specific circumstances, you can inquire with Grandmaster Crow Eye. But, I thought that it might come in handy in the battle with the Four Kingdoms.

Hearing its description, Mayne immediately thought of the Broken Castle in the Wolfsheart Kingdom, and the unpleasant stalemate situation in the Kingdom of Graycastle. He suppressed his joy and saluted again: “If the poison is as effective as Grandmaster Crow Eye say’s it is, this should help me a lot.”

  • Schöner Kristall

So the Church is Cauldron, basically.

  • Xegqu

    Thanks for the chapter

  • Sage Verdurous Sea Turtle

    thanks for the chapter!

    so many righteous comments. >.>
I’m starting to think that USA paid ppl to post good comments about them.
There is no righteous war, every war is/and aways will be about profit. While a lot of young ppl are killing each other, a few fat guys will get some more money.

I dont like how that church handles things… but the others kingdoms arent good either… and our dear Roland is too naive, ppl arent so good natured or simple how is being show on his city… this is the author limit I guess. Anyway, is been a good read so far. I hope he starts to pay “attention” and take care of his harem, otherside if a “bad guy” comes and take care of his witches for him, this story will become boring.

no sir, they arent satisfied, just saving someone and giving him/her shelter will not get they allegiance forever, nor will simple profit keep them at bay.

btw, Am I the only one who thinks that the church is wasteful? I mean, ppl can regenerate blood, so keeping them as livestock would be better.

  • Shiro

Man why when the author is expanding the world he do in this “filler- like” style , so annoying , 3 chapters in a row even ,especially now that i almost caught up.

  • esya

Why not? Usa did a lot of stuff for the ‘good’ of the world like overthrowing governments and experimentations with prisoners for cure of deadly desease. I for one do not think the powers that be in the upper echeleon willfully do this just for their own kick, they do it because they believe – even not for the good of the world its for the good of usa. I dont know about the new president elect tho probably we will now know what it means when powerful people do things for shits and giggles.

    • DudeForDuke

      “Why not?”

…Mainly because even the Japanese that lived through and even survived the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima admit that dropping the bombs saved the lives of millions more (Japanese and Allied forces) than would have been lost in any mainland invasion – and that the fact that the Japanese were already on the bring of facing famine and starvation due to naval blockades.

“Usa did a lot of stuff for the ‘good’ of the world like overthrowing governments”

Sarcasm? Because, actually, it has. Not every government overthrown has been replaced with something just as bad or worse. Don’t forget that Nazi-Germany and the Imperial Japanese were also overthrown.

“and experimentations with prisoners for cure of deadly desease.”

While there has been some unauthorized experimentation on prisoners in America, it was very isolated (and a lot of it involved LSD and drugs for the CIA) and minor. Ironically, those governments overthrown by the U.S. are far more infamous for it because their programs (especially the Japanese with Unit 731 – some of what they did is still not made public even today) were leaps and bounds more involved than anything the U.S. did.

  • Just a Potato

    Thanks for the chapter!

  • Zeth

    Thank you!

  • Hakira

Something I don’t get. Why not recruit the witches, instead of hunting them and go trough the long process just to great one army of judge?

    • Gege

Uh, not all witch are direct battle useful.

    • DudeForDuke

Witches with combat utility are very, very, very, very rare. For example, none of the witches (not even Anna) that Roland has in Border Town can even extend their powers past 5 meters… and all but Scroll are affected by the God’s Stone since she’s an extraordinary.

That said, Roland has the right idea. As auxiliaries, witches are second to none. Anna, Leaves, ect. have proved this time and time again. Hell, Roland would likely be on his way to the chopping block right now if he hadn’t saved Anna.

  • NaoSou

    Thanks!

  • leacherfag

Think of it this way. It’s just basically the Imperium of man from Warhammer. They’re trying to protect Humanity but they’ll do as much evil they can to achieve that

    • A good comparison, I agree.

    • Neruz

If there is anything that slavery and certain wars have taught us it is that bad things happen when people decide that other people aren’t.

  • kirindas

Uwah. The church has such a vicious process for conversions.

  • MangoGuy

f***k no matter how much i try to ignore!!!

  • DiPz
  • Proxy Account

Makes me think of the Steel Inquisitors, or at least FMAB’s Homonculi.

  • mllhild

Oh! I loved this chapter! So much info!

    Maximum production of GPASoldier =
Number of Girls (breed + bought) per year * Prob. that a girl is a Witch * Prob. that she survives the first deamonbite * Prob. that the Judge survives the demonbite

    Witch blood(adult witch) + GSoP = Potion
Need and adult Witch so she has gone thru the worst devils bite by then.
At least the girl is drugged when killed. Wait. Do they take blood until she is dead? I mean it would be far better to take only a part since they could harvest it then every 120 days.

Potion + Human = demonic bite + emotionless super soldier(demonified human)
But usually males are less resistant to pain than woman, so that will be an issue.
Witch blood + GSoP mixture get absorbed thru the skin, no injection needed.

Witches can’t give blood transfusion to humans. It kills the human.
Eating demonic beast flesh also kills humans.
Does eating demonic beast flesh kill witches?

GSoP keeps it magic annulating properties even if dissolved in liquid.
GAoP soldiers lose gradually their emotions AND intelligence.

The first sings failure of the transformation makes the skin start to dissolve and emit white smoke. This sound as if the skin was maybe combusting?

The core had devoted their energy into studying the God’s Stone of Retaliation, creating such things as cold pills, fluorescent stones, wild chemical drug

glowing GSoP = Demonic beast blood + GSoP
    Cold pill = ?
wild chemical drug = ?, also effect unknown

“It only becomes effective after it is sprinkled on rotten corpses and will have an effect on the surrounding population for a long time, compared to ordinary poisons it isn’t necessary for the target to ingest it orally. And without the special antidote, it is completely impossible for it to be cured.”
What could this be? Since it only becomes effective on rotten corpses its probably a compound that decomposes the rotting corpse into harmful chemicals. Then again no idea how to get this on the corpses in the enemy fortress if you are already putting it under siege.

Oh! Could they actually make a magic miasma? I mean the idea of miasma existed for a long time before medical science and sanitation debunked it. But here it could be indeed of magical nature.

    • VerneJules

They might need the blood fresh and they probably have no means to preserve it currently.
Also, I felt the successfully converted judge didn’t take much pain. Maybe the failure is simply due wrong blood type which they’re probably still ignorant of.

  • Angel

wew, the church really Evil IoI, they will even using Bio Weapon!! OMG they need to be Exterminated from the planet ahahaha 😀

    thx for the chapter ^^

  • esya

Am i the only one that the more i read the more i sympathised with the church? They are not killing people for shits and giggles they truly believe the only way to kill devils is by sacrificing young girls. Its like america believing the only way for peace is to detonate two nuclear bombs on japanese civilians. The end justify the mean as they say.

I hope this novel is not one of the dystopian tragic irony that it turn out they are right.

    • Nnelg

I’m worried that it’ll be the opposite, that it’ll turn out they were making things worse in a way that should have been easy to figure out.

      • mllhild

That is quite probable since the old book warned that if the Gods Punishment Army won, it wouldn’t be a victory for humanity but for the GPA. So you could expect that they may turn on the humans then.
At least the GPA can’t reproduce on their own. Unless a GPA Soldier is the one thing that can get a Witch pregnant.

        • Nnelg

I don’t think that’s what the warning was about. I think it was more of a metaphor, a “defeating monsters by becoming worse monsters” sort of thing.

        • DudeForDuke

Think about it in this way – the GPA are so radically different and made from human/witch experiments that calling them human still is questionable. That combined with the fact that they no longer have their original mental capacity and it’s the method by which humanity has to fight with – at least according to the church – and how has humanity achieved a victory? They had others fight for them. Others that weren’t human. Others that are made through a complicated and wasteful process that might not be able to always be replaced. Meanwhile, if humans are able to make war machines and armies and unite – they do have a victory for humanity because they did it themselves and are capable of standing on their own.

GPA are the ultimate crutch. And one with a very expensive cost to it, no less.

    • VerneJules

Their cause isn’t all wrong, they’re just stupid. Experimenting millions of lives for super soldiers? If they could advance their bio-weapon technology, why couldn’t they have made use of witches for productivity just like Roland did? Even without technology, I bet a military strategist could come up with tactics making use of anti-magic melee judges to cancel the devils’ magic and witches to use magic against the devils. Even after 400 years, their whole strategy still relies on the God’s Punishment Army. Despite their research advancements, their overall strategy had remained stagnant.

      • ofcoursenot

Maybe the calamity is the witches that’s why they are afraid of the witches being free

        • VerneJules

What calamity are you talking about?

          • esya

The devils/ the beasts. If this is some tragic manga the witches may be produced by the existance of devils. Or mana in witches produce beasts. Im banking on this chinese author not making me rage quit. I have read enough manga not to trust in magical girls.

    • Đạt Marshall

Well, everyone has to find some “just” cause to justify their action right. Or else how could they live with their conscience. No matter what, the church is still in the wrong because they think they’re the center of the universe and try to solve everything in their way.

    • mllhild

They have indeed a lot of good points and even revolutionary points:
      – ability decides your standing, not birth
      – advanced research
      – fighting for a good cause the only way they know of

Their only dilemma is that they are trapped inside of tradition and got corrupted a lot on the lower and middle levels were information on their actual aims is scarce.

Still, they are the best and justest ruling power in the 4 Kingdoms and if it weren’t for Roland(and maybe Tilly) they would be playing the hero role in the story. Hell, if not for the witches Roland would have sited with the church immediately.

      • MOHLT

Same shit as standard nobility, really… it is quite easy to imagine how future holy kingdom would look like.

Ruled by devils in human skin and you forced to become one if you actually manage to reach top of the hierarchy.
Your ability might be rewarded by turning you into mindless beast or a sacrifice.
Only minority would become agents of church, others same as usual, starve and have miserable lives. Church only interested in improving their own combat prowess after all.
Serfs/poor people most likely will be forced to shallow pills to boost numbers in fight against demons.
Different opinion will result in death, etc.
        Same tyranny, different hand.

If not for witches, Roland would have been decapitated by his “own” brother. Even if he had miraculous victory against the duke, in the end he would become puppet of church and disposed after all information is extracted from him. Church wouldn’t allow person with such dangerous knowledge just to roam free.

      • DudeForDuke

“Still, they are the best and justest ruling power in the 4 Kingdoms and
if it weren’t for Roland(and maybe Tilly) they would be playing the hero
role in the story. Hell, if not for the witches Roland would have sited
        with the church immediately.”

Are… are you serious? I would rather even have Timothy or Garcia in charge instead of the church – that’s how little I think of their methods and reasoning. Not only would they be more likely to unite the kingdom with fewer losses to soldiers, but they’d be much more open to utilizing different methods to combat the demons.

        • esya

Nah garcia sacrifice a whole town of civilians to win. Garcia is what you would call a true warlord. In xianxia she is the type that will be mc.

          • DudeForDuke

“Nah garcia sacrifice a whole town of civilians to win.”

She burned a whole town. How many died, we have no idea. Could be most if not all evacuated and the people in their homes were only a few isolated leftovers. Could be she massacred them all (wouldn’t benefit her, however, and would be diverting her efforts away from other more important matters so I find it unlikely).

That said, even if she did kill an entire town, she’d still be better than the church. Why? Because the church is going to kill even more unifying the kingdom! They stated outright that they plan cause such a swath of destruction that they’re prepared to lose HALF of their God’s Punishment Army supersoldiers. Think about how many people that will mean will die. How many towns is the church willing to slaughter and sacrifice? “As many as it takes.”

Never mind that a quick calculation shows that they’ve killed at least 1,500 people (this isn’t counting the “tens of thousands” of experiments) to make those supersoldiers that they’re ready to lose half of slaughtering the f&cking kingdom to “unite” it. They’re not just evil, they’re stupid evil.

    • DudeForDuke

Just because they feel it is necessary does not mean it actually is. Nor does it justify what they’re doing. Their end goal may be noble, but the means they go about it completely undermines and tears down their efforts.

It would be one thing if the witches agreed to the sacrifice like the Judges recruits agree knowing that they could die. But they don’t. They’re taken, kept captive, and as Wendy shows they’re often raped and then murdered in the HOPES that they MIGHT create a supersoldier. I mean, morals are subjective, but… I don’t see how that isn’t evil as hell. I’m sure some Nazis believed the only way to enrich the world was through genocide as well. Doesn’t mean it isn’t pure evil, however.

Worse yet, the way they’re going about it is flushing resources down the toilet. They might not have known about firearms prior to Roland, but even a moron is going to see a new weapon system and know that even if making it is difficult you can keep manufacturing and army entire armies with it. Making supersoldiers out of a hit-and-miss and wasteful process? And then make the brilliant decision to go to war against all the other kingdoms to cement their authority in the coming fight (they even plan on losing half their God’s Punishment Army JUST TO UNIFY THE KINGDOM – talk about a waste)? They’re stupid as hell.

    • timbone

I agree. Many readers seem to forget that inventing things is not a walk in the park
Roland is just plagiarizing for a lack of a better word. With the limited technological investment and the higher waste to invest in alchemy, their way is definitely more suitable.
Readers should think within the context. Roland is an anomaly
We could assume that a power “witch” in this period summoned Roland because the “witch” knew that the church would fail. Probably the writer of the “Book”

      • esya

        Just like in mushoku tensei

  • Danis

the only bad thing about this novel is to much chapter for side character ……………………………………………………..
    Thanks For The Chapter 😀

  • MOHLT

    Bastards

  • Lino

There’s a minor transalation issue, in original text, O’brian got his ass kicked by former pope for almost wasted a pool of blood.

  • Kuq Ku

At least she didnt feel pain, one small mercy, we all thought this is what was happening anyway, its not like this revelation was something unexpected. For me Im thinking how stupid of the Church, to not use their resources for better things than what they ended up doing, it seems to me that they had a lot of talented people capable of creating a number of amazing things, so why did they resort to something like this?

It makes me wonder what these Devils are like, we only got a brief encounter that wiped out those Witches, but could this be done to the Witches that are trained and have evolved their power to the extent Anna has? Surely the church has explored the potential Witches have? they seem ready to experiment extensively, so why this method to bolster their forces against the Devils?

Wolfsheart Kingdom just showed them that the power of Gods Army was weak as piss compared to what they had, makes me wonder why they dont adopt these ideas and incorporate it into their own plans in fighting the Devils, its confusing how they can appear really intelligent yet amazingly stupid?

Im hoping they clarify that, right now theyre morons who cant see what they have.

    • Michael Renner

it’s because the GPA soldiers have an anti-magic field. they think that would make them more capable of fighting the devils.

  • JinVodka (*´﹃`*)

Biological weapon. Based on the description, most likely bacterial in nature.

  • Oak

    Thanks for the chapter,
The church chapters really gives you a nauseating feeling

  • VerneJules

Damn, they got themselves a biological weapon? I hope Roland could become aware of this and prepare before he battles with the Church, I don’t want the characters form Border Town to suffer such casualties.

Anyone familiar with the poison/biological weapon described above in real life?

    • Cless

      OIL! WE NEED OIL, ASAP!!

    • DudeForDuke

It’s definitely biological. Most likely bacterial if it can work on corpses. Sounds like something similar to anthrax or the Bubonic plague… But it can’t be them if it “only” becomes activated or effective from sprinkling it on dead bodies of animals/humans.

As for biological weapon protection, well… You know Lily? She can preserve food and make it safe to eat for longer? Guess what botulism is and where it normally is found…

  • Tolack

This chapter disgusted me. I can’t wait for Roland to destroy the church and liberate those witches.

  • phyrigia

Oh noooo….. poision. This is bad, roland. I hope nana can heal poisoned people. If not… roland wont be safe.

They call it “poison,” but their method of describing it means it has to be biological, most likely a bacteria.

In which case, Roland doesn’t need Nana but Lily instead. Lily can preserve food and make it clean and stay fresh/safe longer… meaning she can kill botulism (by definition of her power, she has to be able to do this – otherwise her power is useless, it’d be like claiming to sanitize something with spit). Meaning she can manipulate bacteria.

Now whether she can translate that to bacteria as a whole remains to be seen. It makes sense she should be able to, however.

Thank you for the chapter 🙂

  • K╯

    thx!!!

  • ambi

Thanks for the chapter Roxerer and KitKat! Poison and corpses eh. Wonder how Roland will deal with an outbreak. Also, can’t wait for him to exterminate the Church and expose the dark deeds they’ve been hiding.

    • Inbetweenbooks

well, for one thing, is is firmly against rotting corpses, since they breed diseases. And smell.

So if he can’t order a mass grave, he cremates.

    • Danis

      wait next year XD

  • Blabla

Not good meal, the former pope gave o’brian a good taste of his fist out of anger.

  • john delacruz

Honestly, its kinda sad that most novels always depict the behavior of the church as an evil, coniving, scheming, and self proclaimed holy and good.

This is in reference to the “Holy Catholic Church” during the medieval ages upto the renaissance. (Don’t know about them now… they look peaceful enough to me.)

Its filled with assholes who do things “i the name of God” like killing those of a different faith and color, when all they want is just three things which is money, fame, and power/influence.

Its these kinds of bastards that ruin the good name of the church and lead it astray from its original purpose

  • john delacruz

Back in the hanging garden of cliffs i see. Its growing really healthy.

  • Yangxiao Ou

This chapter… sigh.. I want to say the church is not completely bad, they are also pathetic people, the just want to do something good but took the bad way

    • Danis

not completely bad well if you talking about the small fry they don’t know shit but if you go deeper then you got **********************

  • Rico Sebastian

    Who am I kidding …
THis is too much cliff >:3

  • Ale Cole

expect next chapter too enjoy Church blah blah blah blah

  • Yukino o

  • DudeForDuke

    [Teaser]
“To create a new soldier for the God’s Punishment Army, it was necessary to…”
If this is going where I think it’s going (witches being used in some grotesque human experimentation), this is all I have to say in regards to the church:

  • KIZUKI

It was necessary to…………. Take a closer peek at this awesome ride. Mitsubishi mirage. Make it yours……….wat? They need to look at a car? (the ads made it funnier)

  • Wrandral

    Rape alert ! Rape alert!
Or just untold atrocities but i’m pretty certain the conversion ceremony won’t be just them holding hands and singing kumbaya.

    • Danis

you read to much H novel -_-

      • Wrandral

I’m pretty justified since high ranked religious figures in fantasy novels tends to be depraved and libidinous assholes.

  • Ugh, 3 church chapters in a row. I like this kind of chapter that expands the world, but this is too much.

  • Neruz

Well that wasn’t even remotely what I expected, the stones are just mined from out of the ground? Boring. I guess that means the witches must be involved in the conversion process.

    • Gaspar

No one said no witches are used for the stones, colores may mean power or affinity of the witch.
Here I expect human/witches sarifices, blood and all that crap, something like:
      1) eat a witch heart.
      2) drink Her blood with a god stone.
      3) the more inocente and fresh/loli the witch, the better.
      4) remember to bath in Her blood/entrails and leave your brain at the door.

PD: Im absolutely sure nothing good is gonna hapen here and I will not like this chapter… At least I expect no loli/rape, that would be atrocious.

      • Herloct

Well, they call Witches as “Seeds”, surely they need Witches for something, not only to exterminate them

      • mllhild

Maybe the reason why all the GAoR soldiers are without emotions is because their hearts all broke when they saw the masses of sacrificed lolis.

        • Wrandral

Honestly wouldn’t surprise me, nothing like assisting at a mass murder of Loli without trying to save them to makes a monster out of you

  • Raufgar

Lolz, so Mr. Cliff, we meet again !

    • Danis

what you talking about we meet cliff almost everyday XD

  • Aaron Frawley

It is necessary to.. torture the readers with this sick cliffhanger HA
