August 22, 2017 – The LoY production team publishes the first copy of its fictional Tianning “newspaper” with accounts of Tianning’s residents.

Tianning’s Day Dispatch

Today’s Lead Stories
Tagline: Little Medicinal Material* (Xiaoyaocai) does a solo rush to uncover Legend of Yun Xi’s secrets!
Poster Text: Legend of Yun Xi – 2017 Offices

*Little Medicinal Material/Xiaoyaocai (小药材) – codename for our inside source to the LoY world, a mascot we’ll meet later down the road.

Translation: This Report brought to you by Reporter Xiaoyaocai

Si Se Productions’ (not sure if this is the production company name) project of the year, Legend of Yun Xi, has already started filming for about a month. Today, Xiaoyaocai transformed into Tianning Country’s “Chief Entertainment Reporter” and charged deep into its “secret base of operations” to help you guys unmask the secret of a “light ancient period style” and how it came to be.

Upon opening the doors and going inside, Xiaoyaocai was stunned by all the top-secret bulletins and set concept art covering the walls! Yunxi, the Duke of Qin, Qishao, and the various other characters had their filming flow charts there. Art of the “light ancient period style” underwent enthusiastic yet careful discussions in this room before it came into being! Everyday late at night, after the cast and crew finished their filming work, they’d come here to discuss the details of the next day’s filming. They want to give the audiences the most “thrilling” light ancient period style production.

August 23rd, 2017 – Child actor Li Wuyou posts pics of himself on LoY’s set. It looks to be some sort of underground dungeon, complete with either torture or surgical tools…. 0 – 0 The post doesn’t mention specifics about his character in the drama, however, only that he has to get up at 6AM to start work and go flying here and hung up there….poor kid! ^-^

He’s definitely chained in place…are those Xuan iron chains? Haha, the last thing I remember tied up in those was the poison beast… Click to expand for rest of pics.

It looks like he’s been put to sleep…actually, this might be a flashback for a certain character, now that I think of it…saying anything more will be spoilers. (I’m not sure though, I haven’t gotten that far in the raws!)

Closeup of our mystery character. Again, I think I know who it might be, but I’d have to check the raws…

A collection of various blades…perhaps surgery tools or similar? They don’t look like torture instruments, and the last one is clearly a washbasin of some sort.

August 23rd, 2017 – Behind the scenes stills of filming in progress. Here’s the summary I got from the official drama weibo: Long Feiye gets deathly poisoned, and Han Yunxi gets blamed for the incident. She’s slapped by Baili Mingxiang (girl in pink, who seems to have combined characters with Murong Wanru here), before being berated by Grand Concubine Yi (woman in white) and locked up in the woodhouse.

You can see that they mixed up a few bits of the novel in the summary above. Also, Baili Mingxiang is a character we’ll meet in the novel, but she’s nowhere as mean as this. ^-^

Solo shot of actress Ju Jingyi prepping for the scene. Click to expand for rest of pics.

Han Yunxi and Chu Xifeng helping Long Feiye down the steps. I don’t think he’s ever looked this helpless, even in the novel. xD

Baili Mingxiang confronting Han Yunxi about the poisoning. BLNX’s character seems to be combined with Murong Wanru, though I don’t know why she’s wandering around the Duke of Qin’s estate like that. In the background you can see Grand Concubine Yi (in white) making her way over the scene as well.

Baili Mingxiang steps closer. Gah, I love Han Yunxi’s glare here. And the way BLNX’s robes float behind her as she walks!

SLAP!

Baili Mingxiang slaps Han Yunxi (scene from two angles). (Oooh, I see her medical pouch!) Again, the novel Baili Mingxiang is much nicer. You’ll like her when we meet her for real, I promise.

Grand Concubine Yi appears, finds out the news, and gets seriously mad at Han Yunxi. She looks really young here–just like how she’s in her 40s in the novel, but “very well preserved.” Also, could that servant girl in the background be a possible Chen Xiang? Or one of the Grand Concubine’s servants?

Our heroine looking super unresigned. Pay attention to the bracelet on her right hand…we’ll see it show up in the novel eventually. ^-^ Also, her light blue robes are reminiscent of the first robes she wore at the Duke of Qin’s estate on the morning after her wedding day, when Long Feiye went with her to pay respects to her mother-in-law and the Empress + Empress Dowager. 😀

Some more behind the scene shots, mainly of actress Ju Jingyu reviewing her script, with actress Shao Xuecong in the background (dressed in pink as Baili Mingxiang).

Every Chinese drama I’ve seen so far has these official umbrella carriers who walk around shielding the actors and actresses from the sun. Do you think that’s their only job, or do they get the coffee and lunchboxes for them too? xD

I think Ju Jingyu’s always been pretty good at emoting with her eyes.

August 24th, 2017 – Three LoY dispatches are released today. The first talks about the aesthetics of the drama–a kind of “light ancient period costume style,” the second focuses on the main leads, and the third features Emperor Tianhui with Chu Qingge. Click to expand for rest of pics.

Tianning’s Morning Dispatch
Title:
“First photos of Legend of Yun Xi’s light ancient period set”
Tagline: Media reports favorably on its fresh and pure palette!

Translation (LEFT SIDE): A corner of the Duke of Qin’s estate, the guest parlor as high and lofty as a clear moon. Even the design of the windows were done meticulously. Its subtle, reticulated work makes the space less dreary and heavy, while the presence of the white crane and green plants add vitality and life to the scene. The combination of modern aesthetics and ancient elements combine to clearly reveal the aesthetics of “light ancient period style.”

(RIGHT SIDE): This is what our Little Medicinal Material/Xiaoyaocai (codename for the mascot/inside source reporter of LoY) picked up at random in the costume department. Such a light and airy piece! Upon the sky blue hues of cotton yarn are actually embroidered peacock feathers! The costume teacher said, the pattern was done stitch-by-stitch with human hands. No wonder the robes are so resplendently floaty and alive!

An example of that mild period costume style (aka not exactly historically accurate) with HYX’s soft, floaty sleeves. Haha, did Ju Jingyu take some leftover feathers from her Novoland into this drama? xD

Tianning’s Noon Dispatch
Title:
“Long Feiye has a method to “look after Xi” (Han Yunxi)”
Tagline:
Han Yunxi gets teased into laughing again and again

Translation (LEFT SIDE): Yesterday, little Xi was slapped by Baili Mingxiang and suffered a stomach full of grievances. As the “great duke and guardian of our flower”, our Brother Long naturally felt pained at heart when he saw the sight. In order to scatter the gloomy cloud above little Xi, he “gave it his all.”

(RIGHT SIDE): He imitated the other actors, sometimes with strange and funny accents, and even wanted little Xi to watch him dance! Hundreds of flowers bloomed as a result, and little Xi’s clouds dispersed to reveal the sun. She was smiling so much, she could’ve drawn a circle with her grin!

EXTRA EXTRA! Tianning’s Qin Wangfei caught acting cute! Heart attacks sweep across all of Tianning! Sources say His Highness Duke of Qin turned at least one shade redder than usual on his face!

Tianning’s Evening Dispatch
Title:
“Emperor Tianhui says: ‘Consort Qing’s acting skills are improving very quickly'”
Tagline: Shooting scenes with the 90s Flower (basically, a young female actress born in the 1990s) feels like a heart-strengthening shot

Translation (LEFT SIDE): Emperor Tianhui may be one of the drama’s major antagonists, but he possesses deep feelings for Esteemed Consort Qing (Chu Qingge). As an old veteran actor, he’d naturally help out a 90s Flower to better get into her role. Moreover, he even told her that “as a king’s woman, you must always have a certain ‘demanor!'”

(RIGHT SIDE): Meanwhile, kiki (actress Xu Jiaqi’s nickname) relied on her naturally talented acting and understanding to earn the praise of the veteran in the space of a dozen or so days. “Beloved consort’s acting skills have improved at a divine rate. We even talk about fashion often, which has helped me enter an entirely new world!”

August 25th, 2017 – First pictures of Pill Fiend Valley are out. Personally, it reminds me of Hobbiton, but I like the whimsical style.

Of the two figures in white, the one on the right is Chu Qingge (AKA our CQG + Duanmu Yao combo character). I’m not sure if Yunxi’s the one on the left, the hairstyle doesn’t quite fit…maybe it’s her servant girl? Click to expand for rest of pics.

A closeup view of the house (Pill Fiend’s place, perhaps?). By the way, the little purple cartoon girl is wearing a hairclip that says “药” or “Medicine.” The production refers to her as “小药材,” or “Little Medicinal Material/Xiaoyaocai.” So yeah, that purple girl’s supposed to our LoY mascot/reporter/inside source on the series. xD

A shot of actress Xu Jiaqi, who plays Chu Qingge in the drama, standing in front of the funky house.

Closeup of Little Medicinal Material/Xiaoyaocai. The words on the right read: “supah cute.” Isn’t it convenient that the snu snu sect colors are a similar shade of light purple? uwu It’s fate, my fellow poison fans~

Still August 25th. The drama weibo posts a pic with a summary and a question asking who these comfortable looking “pajamas” might belong to. Novel fans claim that it might belong to Han Yunxi, because Long Feiye once mentioned he liked seeing her dressed in wine-red robes. One fan claimed it had to be Gu Qishao because it was red, and even used Paint to draw an appropriate robe on actor Merxat to match. Click to expand for rest of pics.

Weibo user kiki凌凌: “My Qishao’s. [cat emoji] My Qishao’s red robe. This is my own imagination…”

Here’s Gu Qishao’s actor, Merxat, going over his lines. I wonder whose house he’s sitting in…the Duke of Qin’s? Or maybe his own teashop?

Official chibi art of Gu Qishao. Looks like his signature prop in this drama will be a fan…

August 27, 2017 – Actress Xu Jiaqi’s birthday. She has a special modified character poster posted by the drama weibo for the occasion. Again, she plays Chu Qingge (a combination of novel Chu Qingge + Duanmu Yao) in the drama, who’s written in the script as the princess of Western Zhou. No martial brother-sister relationship with LFY as far as I know, but the marriage alliance plotline is very much intact (and probably the Pill Fiend Valley competition too, if the earlier pictures are any to judge by).

It’s a more playful version of her official character poster. Some more pics of her are below. Click to expand.

I love how the mosaics were first used to censor out the drama costumes, but now they’re censoring the extras and production crew in the background instead. X3 Not sure what kind of flower that tree has–might even be one of those rare medicinal plants in Pill Fiend’s Valley. It looks just a touch out of the ordinary.

August 28, 2017 – The drama weibo posts a graphic of the main leads in honor of the Qixi Festival, aka Chinese Valentine’s Day. Traditionally held on the 7th day of the 7th Lunar month, 2017’s Qixi Festival falls on August 28th. As a side note, author Jie Mo noted that this day is also Gu Qishao’s birthday! :3

Hope you enjoyed another sneak peak into Legend of Yun Xi! You can expect a whole lot more in the coming months! ^-^ Now let’s–oh.

Oh, wait.

I forgot something very important.

Probably something we all need right now to soothe our poor, starved, frozen-solid OTP hearts…

Yeah, I’m talking about that.

OTP GLOMP HUG FOREVER!!!! *casually ignores dead bodies in the background*

Now we can all have a nice day. ^-^ <3 <3
